Professional Ductless AC and Heating Services in Edmonton & Spruce Grove
The Basics of Ductless Air Conditioners
Ductless heating and cooling systems have been gaining a lot of popularity as of late. The main reason is that they offer much more efficient heating and cooling to residential and commercial properties. But what exactly are ductless AC and heating systems? Just as the name implies, these types of HVAC systems don’t require any ductwork. Instead, there is an indoor and outdoor unit and a unit installed in every room. This setup allows you to cool or heat each zone individually, as opposed to cooling or heating the entire building. How Do Ductless Systems Work?
The basics of how a ductless system works are the same as how central units work. The outside unit has a compressor and condenser and is directly linked to the indoor unit. The outdoor unit moves refrigerant to the indoor unit so it can absorb warm air inside the house, cool it and redistribute it to different zones of the building. However, instead of cold air moving through vents and ducts, it moves directly through conduits that connect the indoor unit to the individual room units.
The Ductless Installation Process
The installation process for ductless heat pump and air conditioning systems is much easier than traditional central unit installation. The outdoor unit is usually installed on a concrete slab, while the indoor unit can be mounted to the wall. Only one small hole will be made in your wall that connects the outdoor and indoor unit. This is so the conduit that houses the refrigerant tubing, electric cables and drain line can be linked between the outdoor and indoor unit. Then, small units are installed in any rooms you want them in and are usually mounted discreetly on the wall near the ceiling.
What Kind of Maintenance Is Involved?
You maintain your ductless system in much the same way as you would a central system. In general, you should have a professional come out and look at your system once a year. However, maintenance on a ductless system tends to be a lot easier than a central system, because your technician will not have to test vent pressure. You also won’t need to have your ducts cleaned to ensure air purity and proper air flow, because there are no ducts! While ductless system maintenance is a bit easier, you should still be vigilant, as problems can still arise.
